1st In Coffee – French Presses – Taking the Plunge

Bodum Chambord 12 French PressSome moments I just yearn for a good cup of coffee.  Now sometimes, I just make an Americano – a shot of espresso, just adding hot water to my desired strength.  And this works nicely.

But like I said, some moments I just yearn for a good cup of coffee.  And this is where my trusty old French Press comes in.  It’s really something simple to use, and truly something of a treat for you and your guests.

Freshly grind your coffee beans to a coarse setting (you are grinding coffee beans as you need them, right)?   Scoop one tablespoon for each 4oz of water in the press.  Add hot water and place the lid and plunger at the top.  Let it steep between 2-4 minutes, depending on how strong you like your cuppa.  Then take the plunge.  Slowly depress the plunger till it reaches the bottom.  Remember, slow and steady wins the race.

Then pour into your favorite beverage vessel, relax, breathe in the robust aroma and enjoy.  Aaahh.

Holiday Tip: Last year, I had a French Press at each place setting for the dessert portion of our holiday party.  Not only did each of our guests get to experiment and enjoy this traditional method of brewing coffee, but they also got to take the French Presses home, as this was their holiday gift.  Now that’s a double-good cup of coffee.
